Cancellation of Red Bull Air Race

The Red Bull Air Race in Longleat, England, was unfortunately cancelled due to high winds. The cancellation means Friday’s qualifying results will be used as the official Longleat race results, making British pilot Paul Bonhomme the official winner of the 6th leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Series.

With winds reaching a dangerous 80 km/h and showers worsening throughout the day, conditions became too dangerous for pilots to fly the course. The challenging course demands that pilots fly low to the ground and around tall trees at high speeds.

In a strong improvement over Thursday’s training flights, Hungary’s Peter Besenyei was four seconds behind with 02:35.39, followed closely by American Kirby Chambliss with 02:35.58.

Real ‘Top Gun’ pilots, breathtaking countryside and pumping adrenaline… it could only be the Red Bull Air Race!

Over 80,000 spectators are expected to turn up, as they witness fast, cutting-edge machines, exhilarating action and visually spectacular racing, as they rip into the countryside!

As its name suggests, the Red Bull Air Race is a ‘race in the air’, in three dimensions. Each race consists of eleven pilots racing against time and each other, in this race for the most accomplished pilot in the series. Taking it in turn, each pilot will take on the course consisting of a number of obstacles set up on a large arena, as they speed through it in a battle against time.

The pilot who flies the ‘track’ in the fastest time - executing all required aerobatic maneuvers, with the least amount of penalties - is the winner; scoring valuable points. At the end of the series, the pilot with the most points will be crowned Red Bull Air Race World Champion.

Free Tickets to the Red Bull Air Race in Longleat will be available later in the summer, to keep abreast with all the races in the meantime.

Longleat will operate restricted access to all attractions on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September 2006 due to this Event.
