The Red Bull Air Race World Championship will make a much anticipated return to Perth, Australia in 2010 on 17 & 18 April. Perth’s spectacular Swan River will once again be the location for the high speed, low altitude motor sports competition featuring the world’s best race pilots.

Red Bull Air Race Pilot Kindlemann crashed in Perth training

Adilson Kindlemann has had a miracle escape after crashing his plane into the Swan River during Red Bull training on Wednesday April14.

The Brazilian Red Bull Air Race pilot has escaped with minor injuries. Adilson Kindlemann, 36, a former airline pilot, was doing a practice run ahead of the World Championship competition event on Friday. Kindlemann lost control of his aircraft after rounding a pylon during practice. Kindlemann managed a near wings level impact, but as the aircraft’s fixed landing gear dug into the water, the aircraft flipped, leaving Kindlemann and the aircraft floating upside down in Perth’s Swan River. Weather conditions at the time of the accident were less than ideal, with gusty winds.

Race Day Sunday 18 April

The final four started with the Australian Matt Hall with the fastest time of the day.Lamb, who had been posting strong times all week, was up next but couldn’t top Hall’s time. Arch, starting third, moved into the lead with a time of 1:26.51. Bonhomme was flying well and poised to win the race but stumbled in the fourth and final sector to fall to third place, 0.79 behind Arch and 0.31 behind Hall.

Another big winner in Perth was Pete McLeod, who took a strong fifth place. It was a disappointing race for Americans Kirby Chambliss and Michael Goulian.
